Landmark Systems Ltd is delighted to be appointed by the NFU as the sole recommended supplier of agricultural software in the run up to mandatory Making Tax Digital (MTD) for VAT in April. NFU members will receive a discount on new purchases within the KEYPrime accounting range of software. There is a level to suit any size of farm or estate, with links available to KEYPrime Property for property management and Geofolia – Landmark’s crop recording solution.
Head of Tax at the NFU, Michael Parker, said: “There are potential advantages of having all the data at the farmers’ fingertips, for instance in assessing costs of production. However, the NFU has consistently expressed concerns over the timescale and the ability of smaller businesses to adapt.”
A series of MTD presentations are being organised regionally (see dates below) by the NFU with Landmark in February and March to dispel some myths and demonstrate how KEYPrime software can help farmers to meet the deadline. Landmark’s software is either web-hosted (cloud platform) or locally pc installed with regional sales and training consultants alongside a UK based award-winning support team to help users both on-site and over the telephone.
Founder, Nigel Parsons, said:
“The Landmark Development Team has been working extensively with HMRC for over a year to ensure that our accounting software is fully compliant for MTD VAT submissions. One click of the KEYPrime cloud icon transfers the necessary information to HMRC online. It’s that simple! Users can be re-assured that HMRC will not have full access to all the farm business information on KEYPrime – only the 9 boxes on the VAT Return will be submitted.”

Testimonials
Carol Smith, Company Secretary at Peter G Smith Soil Nutrient Systems, a pilot scheme user said:
“The development and support teams at Landmark were fantastic. We had to work at it the first time because it was a new way of submitting VAT for us all, but it was easier than I thought – I just pressed the little button and it went! I have tried doing other online submissions and they were a lot more complicated. I feel confident now in KEYPrime moving forward to next month.”
Carol Dodson, Finance Manager at Courteenhall Estate, added:
“I have used Landmark software for 11 years, but was feeling a little daunted by the prospect of MTD-Vat, so decided to join the pilot scheme to provide me with an insight into what will be expected in April. The whole process was supported by Landmark, enabling me to submit the VAT Returns very smoothly and efficiently. I’m now confident that MTD-Vat via KeyPrime will be easy to administer and process.”
Pilot Scheme update
On the current state of the HMRC Pilot scheme Nigel Parsons said:
“The pilot is progressing well – over 3,500 businesses have already joined and HMRC has seen a dramatic increase in daily take-up to well over 100 a day. Increased pilot participation will allow more businesses to get used to the service before they are mandated to use it as well as giving HMRC assurance that the service works for a range of different customer types. A small group of businesses which have more complex affairs have been given an extension for further testing beyond April, but these will have been written to by HMRC.”
